On October 26th, 2024, the Wiener Sicherheitsfest, Austria’s largest safety event, took place at Rathausplatz in Vienna. Organized by “Die Helfer Wiens,” this annual event is held on Austria’s national holiday and attracts a massive audience of approximately 800,000 visitors. As part of this significant gathering, the Johanniter set up an engaging booth to showcase a variety of topics, including first aid and ongoing research at JOAFG.
At the booth, a special focus was placed on the TREEADS project through interactive activities designed for younger audiences. The TREEADS Wildfire Game and a dedicated folder for children were the highlights of the presentation. Visitors were invited to play the Wildfire Game, during which children learned about critical aspects of wildfire prevention and response. Topics covered included ways to prevent wildfires, how to detect fires quickly, strategies to protect people and animals, methods of combating fires, and the importance of emergency service training. Additionally, the activity explored how forests can recover from fire damage and how TREEADS contributes to these efforts. All information was communicated in simple and accessible language to ensure a clear understanding among younger participants.
This event was highly relevant to the goals of TREEADS, particularly aligning with WP10, Task 10.2, which focuses on outreach and dissemination activities. By presenting the TREEADS Wildfire Game and educational materials, the team successfully introduced the project to a broad public audience, sparking interest in wildfire management and resilience.
The event underscored TREEADS’ commitment to engaging with diverse audiences and raising awareness about disaster prevention and recovery in innovative ways. The interactions at the booth helped to inform and inspire the public, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in building a safer future.
