Join us for the fifth webinar in the series: “TREEADS Technologies for Wildfire Resilience”. Find the recordings of previous webinars HERE

The TREEADS project is pleased to invite you to the fifth webinar in our series aimed at showcasing cutting-edge technologies and solutions developed to address wildfire challenges. The webinar will take place on May 9th, 2025, at 15:00 pm CEST via Webex. The webinar is free, but registration is required. This session will highlight four cutting-edge satellite, sensor, and IoT solutions designed to enhance wildfire detection, environmental monitoring and first responder safety. These TREEADS innovations demonstrate the transformative role of integrated sensing technologies and real-time data in advancing wildfire management, situational awareness, and rapid response capabilities. Webinar Agenda

  • Introduction to TREEADS and the Knowledge Marketplace Repository (KMR) (10 min)

Presented by Maria Pantazidou (INNOV-ACTS LIMITED)

  • Solution 1: Four-Layered enhanced detection, targeting and extinction system (15 min)

A four-layer detection and response platform aggregating information from various sensors and altitudes to provide timely, accurate, and comprehensive information regarding emerging wildfire incidents, along with aerial fire extinguishing services. The integrated information enhances situational awareness and supports applications like hotspot detection, object recognition and optimal route planning for first responders. Hotspot detection, for instance, combines data from satellites, high altitude balloons, low and medium altitude UAVs, and other sensors to deliver reliable information, whereas terrain information from LiDAR sensors are utilized to determine safe routes for firefighters. The platform also integrates novel UAV-aided firefighting solutions for aerial fire suppression and extinguishing for swift and effective response.

Presented by Manos Michail (Centre for Research and Technology Hellas – CERTH)

  • Solution 2: Wearable multi-sensor data acquisition component (NCSRD-MSU) for air pollutants (15 min)

The NCSRD-MSU is a cutting-edge wearable solution designed for the real-time monitoring of air quality characteristics & pollutants such as Temperature, Humidity, Carbon Monoxide (CO) concentration and Particulate Matter (PM) in various classes of mass and number concentrations. Specifically developed to enhance first responders’ (FR) safety, this multi-sensor system can be integrated with AR helmets, displaying pollutant concentrations in real time. By delivering critical data on environmental hazards, it significantly improves situational awareness and interconnectivity between the FR, their wearables, and command and control centers. The NCSRD-MSU empowers decision-making in hazardous environments, providing an essential tool for reducing risks and enhancing operational efficiency.

Presented by Konstantinos Panou (National Centre For Scientific Research Demokritos – NCSRD)

  • Solution 3: Forest black box (15 min)

A system that consists of multitude IoT platforms and sensors strategically spread in the forest, monitoring flammable gas and smoke emissions, local temperature and humidity, capturing images and sounds and detecting movement.

Presented by Manolis Fountoulakis (Eight Bells Ltd – 8BELLS)

  • Solution 4: AR Helmet (15 min)

An augmented reality (AR) helmet with embedded sensors aiming at facilitating the identification of dangerous locations and optimization of the course of action to combat wildfires through combining data such as the locations of individual firefighters, real-time temperature readings, real-time command visualization, real-time map views of the field of action.

Presented by Manolis Fountoulakis (Eight Bells Ltd – 8BELLS)

  • Q&A Session (20 min)

 Who Should Attend?

This webinar is ideal for:

  • Emergency responders and wildfire management professionals
  • Environmental scientists and monitoring specialists
  • Remote sensing, IoT, and wearable technology developers
  • Public safety authorities and policymakers
  • Firefighting teams and first responder organizations
  • Researchers and innovators in wildfire detection and management
  • Anyone interested in advanced technologies for wildfire safety and response
