The TREEADS team carried out exploratory deployment tests of CERBERUS Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to Kalergi Mountain Shelter, located at the Samaria Gorge National Park, in the White Mountains mountain range at an altitude of 1680 meter, on the western region of Crete.

The successful implementation was held on May 15-16, 2023. TREEADS deployment partners, ACCELIGENCE Ltd, a UAV manufacturing company based in Nicosia Cyprus and provider of the CERBERUS UAV prototype, the Technical University of Crete and the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania, responsible for the planning of the pilot project, were there to ensure the successful outcome of the tests.

The scope of the tests was to check and validate the CERBERUS UAV system operation and explore the potential of the areas where the final pilots are going to take place. The deployment team tested the FLIR DUO PRO R dual sensor camera mounted on the CERBERUS aircraft. The preliminary UAV testing will enable TREEADS partners to be better prepared and improve risk efficiency of the full-scale rollout, expected during the 3rd year of the TREEADS project, that involves the UAV-aided surveillance and real-time hotspot detection in Samaria Gorge using TREEADS integrated prototype system.
