Prevention and preparedness will be based on an everyday risk analysis, based on multiple data sources mentioned above. Moreover, TREEADS computational system will be able to simulate different scenarios of incidents and analyse alternative suggestions of actions. Suggestions include a detailed planning of the allocation of the available resources (e.g., aircrafts, vehicles, drones), routes for each means of transportation, creation of new fire zones, timings of each activity, prophylactic treatment of high-risk landscapes using retardant fluids when critical weather conditions occur 13 etc. In case of inhabited areas involved in the scenarios, then the system will also include evacuation plans, areas where buildings need fire protection, as well as specific measures and procedures to maximize the efficiency of the interaction with the citizens, based on their socioeconomic profiles.
Overview of relevant technologies
Accurate forest mapping
Image Spectrometry and LiDAR Forest Scanning will be used for the creation of a digital twin of the forest and its interaction along the three main phases of a fire (pre-fire, active fire and post-fire).
Risk analysis tool
Forestry management regarding forest fire prevention through the use of decision-making supporting tools.
Passive fire protection for key infrastructures and residential buildings
Passive fire protection (PFP) products protect steel and concrete structures from exceeding critical temperature limits. PFP material can also protect equipment from vibrations, collisions, explosions, and even earthquakes.
Fire-resistant wooden construction materials
Developing wooden construction products that after a fully controlled vacuum/pressure fire retardant impregnation process can withstand simulated wildland-Urban Interface fires.
Nature-based and fire-resilient solution for prevention and restoration
Exploiting the potential of post-wildfires wood ashes (PWA) of being used as precursors for alkali activated construction materials (AAM) with improved fire resistance performances.
Insurance Model and Risk Transfer Solutions
Estimation of the physical damage and economic losses arising from wildfire. Upon analysis of the relevant insurance environment and market, the results of this model will inform the definition of appropriate risk transfer solutions.
Forrest black box
A system that consists of a multitude of low cost IoT platforms consisting of sensors strategically spread in the forest which will be able to monitor nearby flammable gas and smoke emissions (such as LPG), local temperature and humidity, capture images and sounds and detect movement.
Earth Observation based toolkit and Territorial assessment tool
Leveraging the use and exploitation of data, using data mining methods to combine Copernicus services and time-series, linking different datasets across scales with high and medium spatial resolution.
