The first day began with a theoretical session on Friday\, followed by a practical session the next day. \nDuring the practical session\, the team was divided into two groups and taught the necessary equipment and techniques for combating forest and field fires. The participants were shown how to create a fire break by hand and set up a bolt position along a hypothetical line of defense. Additionally\, they were given a detailed explanation and hands-on training on the water-carrying fittings used for fighting forest fires. \nThe 10-person training team provided extensive knowledge and guidance to all participants\, ensuring that they were optimally prepared for future firefighting assignments in the district. \nOverall\, the forest and field firefighting module was a great success\, equipping the participants with essential skills and knowledge. \nWe would like to thank the Chief Extinguisher Sebastian Dallio\, the training team\, and all the participants for their contribution! \nFollow us on LinkedIn and Twitter to stay up to date with project developments and latest news!

SUMMARY:Skogsbrand 2023
DESCRIPTION:The TREEADS project participated in a successful conference that was held in Östersund\, Sweden\, from March 22-23\, 2023. The event had approximately 130 attendees from a diverse range of technology partners\, research institutes\, and stakeholders. During the conference\, the RISE Fire Research partner presented the Norwegian pilot of the TREEADS project\, with a focus on the fieldwork on coastal heathland and boreal forests in Norway. \nIt is worth mentioning that the conference was described as “Nordic” and was conducted primarily in Swedish\, a language understood by residents of Sweden\, Norway\, Iceland\, Denmark\, and Finland. \nThroughout the conference\, attendees had the opportunity to engage in stimulating discussions and gain valuable knowledge and insights into the Norwegian pilot. The event was considered a great success and Swedish authorities and research institutes were very keen to learn from Norwegian experiences and culture for wildfire management. \nWe would like to thank all the attendees for their participation and the RISE Fire Research for the great presentation! \n\nFollow us on LinkedIn and Twitter to stay up to date with project developments and latest news!

SUMMARY:Capacity building workshop on management practices for the restoration of degraded Mediterranean forest landscapes
DESCRIPTION:A successful workshop was held in Hammamet\, Tunisia; on March 14-17\, 2023. The TREEADS partner Universitat de Girona was there to represent the project with a presentation entitled “Post-fire Decision Support System\, TREEADS solution tool for post-fire management.” \nDuring the meeting\, the attendees were up to 35\, including researchers and scientists from universities and research institutes that work on the restoration of degraded landscapes in the Mediterranean. Experts from Ministries of Agriculture or Environment of Mediterranean countries responsible for or involved in restoration initiatives and projects attended the workshop as well. \nThe main aim of the workshop was to share knowledge related to the restoration of degraded Mediterranean forest landscapes with a focus on how to assess and plan restoration\, which interventions should be chosen\, ANR\, and also the role of forest genetic resources: what is ANR\, when is ANR appropriate\, factors to consider in setting up ANR\, basic procedures to put in place\, post-fire restoration strategies\, recovery and improvement of biodiversity\, financial resources available for ANR and restoration. \nThe scope of this workshop was to help participants better understand the context of Mediterranean forest and landscape restoration\, as well as to focus on effective and cost-effective restoration and rehabilitation of forests and biodiversity. \nFinally\, the workshop was a great opportunity to share experiences and expertise\, thus contributing to regional dynamics and knowledge sharing. \nMany thanks for this meaningful workshop. The TREEADS project aims to contribute in any possible way to management practices for the restoration of degraded Mediterranean forest landscapes. \n  \nFollow us on LinkedIn and Twitter to stay up to date with project developments and latest news!
