SUMMARY:Call for Papers: [Drones] (IF: 4.8\, ISSN: 2504-446X) - Special Issue "Drones for Wildfire and Prescribed Fire Science"
DESCRIPTION:Advancements in technology have accelerated the use of unmanned aircraft systems (UASs)/ drones\, for research and operations during wildland fires. Drones offer various benefits\, such as spotting potential flare-ups\, maintaining crew member awareness\, supporting firefighting efforts\, collecting meteorological data for plume dispersion calculations\, assessing vegetation before and after burns\, studying fire dynamics\, conducting spot ignitions\, and sampling emissions to assess smoke hazards. \nDrones’ flexibility\, portability\, night-time capability\, and real-time telemetry provide valuable information to incident responders\, aiding decision-making. The emergence of edge computation and 5G/6G networks enables instant in-flight analyses\, crucial for generating products that support fire management decisions during the response stage. \nThis Special Issue will welcome manuscripts that link the use of UAS to the following wildland fire themes: \n\nFirefighter safety\, management and control; Characterization of fire dynamics;\nPlume dispersion; Detailed forest mapping; Characterization of fire emissions;\nMeteorological measurements;\nDetection and tracking of elements (e.g.\, people\, animals\, vehicles\, etc.).\n\nSubmitted articles and review papers should focus on unmanned platforms\, specifically UASs\, along with related technologies and applications in wildland fire management. These submissions should cover topics related to the main steps in wildfires: prevention\, response\, and restoration. SUMMARY:TREEADS at the 3rd International Congress on Fire in the Earth  System: Humans and Nature
DESCRIPTION:TREEADS project aiming at addressing the uncertainty and socio-economic dimensions inherent in wildfire management\, recently participated in the 3rd International Congress on Fire in the Earth System: Humans and Nature (fEs2024)\, on 3rd-6th June\, 2024\, in Cáceres\, Extremadura\, Spain. \nThis conference served as a crucial meeting point for professionals dedicated to forest fire prevention and risk reduction\, who contributed to see different experiences and boost the emergence of new approaches to fire research. \nA presentation entitled “Architecting Wildfire Resilience: A Framework for Software-Driven Detection and Response” was presented by Anna-Maria Despotopoulou from FrontierInnovations\, introducing an architectural framework for a software platform for Detection of Emerging Fire-related Situations and Response Process Management. SUMMARY:TREEADS at the 8th edition of the European Civil Protection Forum (CPF 2024)
DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to share that TREEADS project participated in the 8th European Civil Protection Forum (CPF 2024)\, on June 4th-5th\, 2024\, in Brussels\, Belgium. \nWith over 1\,500 civil protection professionals joined\, including researchers\, practitioners and policymakers\, this edition was the biggest yet\, in terms of attendance and marked a pivotal moment for civil protection in Europe. \nTREEADS’ Coordinator\, Kemal Arsava (FRN)\, in collaboration with project’s key partners\, innovative technologies and solutions\, such as large-drone for fire retardants (EAC-WHISPER and OS)\, small drone for seed deployment (EAC-WHISPER)\, seeding capsules (GBD)\, OpenStreetMap (EFB)\, fire resilient materials (VIPO)\, high altitude balloon (B2Space SP)\, were showcased to all interested stakeholders in a shared exhibit booth. \nFollow us on LinkedIn and Twitter to stay up to date with project developments and latest news!

SUMMARY:TREEADS at the CERIS Annual Event 2024
DESCRIPTION:TREEADS project\, recently participated in the CERIS Annual Event 2024: Disaster-Resilient Societies – From Local to International Cooperation\, on June 5th-7th\, in Brussels\, Belgium. \nTREEADS\, proudly represented by our Coordinator\, Kemal Arsava (FRN)\, and more than 25 EU (research and capacity building) projects with more than 40 speakers in various panels\, involving policy-makers\, scientists\, practitioners\, SMEs and civil society organisations\, worked together to set up an agenda that covered discussions over existing and developing networking initiatives from the international to the local levels  in support of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) policies\, synergies between DRR research and capacity-building projects\, as well as enhanced access to knowledge in societal resilience\, technologies for first and second responders\, prevention/preparedness for climate /  weather extreme events and geohazards\, and resilience to CBRN threats with focus on medical emergencies.\nThe TREEADS Consortium looks forward to future insightful CERIS events and activities and thanks the organisers for putting together yet another highly-relevant event. \nFollow us on LinkedIn and Twitter to stay up to date with project developments and latest news!
