SUMMARY:Call for Papers: [Drones] (IF: 4.8\, ISSN: 2504-446X) - Special Issue "Drones for Wildfire and Prescribed Fire Science"
DESCRIPTION:Advancements in technology have accelerated the use of unmanned aircraft systems (UASs)/ drones\, for research and operations during wildland fires. Drones offer various benefits\, such as spotting potential flare-ups\, maintaining crew member awareness\, supporting firefighting efforts\, collecting meteorological data for plume dispersion calculations\, assessing vegetation before and after burns\, studying fire dynamics\, conducting spot ignitions\, and sampling emissions to assess smoke hazards. \nDrones’ flexibility\, portability\, night-time capability\, and real-time telemetry provide valuable information to incident responders\, aiding decision-making. The emergence of edge computation and 5G/6G networks enables instant in-flight analyses\, crucial for generating products that support fire management decisions during the response stage. \nThis Special Issue will welcome manuscripts that link the use of UAS to the following wildland fire themes: \n\nFirefighter safety\, management and control; Characterization of fire dynamics;\nPlume dispersion; Detailed forest mapping; Characterization of fire emissions;\nMeteorological measurements;\nDetection and tracking of elements (e.g.\, people\, animals\, vehicles\, etc.).\n\nSubmitted articles and review papers should focus on unmanned platforms\, specifically UASs\, along with related technologies and applications in wildland fire management. These submissions should cover topics related to the main steps in wildfires: prevention\, response\, and restoration. The primary requirement is that the papers contribute new and innovative insights\, methods\, or technologies to the field of UAS in wildland fire management. \nLearn more about the submission here. \nDownload the pdf \n\nFollow us on LinkedIn and Twitter to stay up to date with project developments and latest news!

SUMMARY:TREEADS at the 7th Disaster Risk Management Knowledge Centre (DRMKC) Annual Seminar
DESCRIPTION:TREEADS recently participated at the 7th Disaster Risk Management Knowledge Centre (DRMKC) Annual Seminar organized by Firelogue.eu. This vital event took place on November 21st\, 2023\, at the Royal Bibliotheque of Belgium. This seminar provided a platform to discuss and showcase innovations and strategies for disaster risk management. \nThe Annual Seminar brought together a diverse group of key stakeholders from the scientific community and national authorities and institutions. An attendance of 70 participants ensured an intimate and interactive environment that fostered meaningful discussions and idea exchanges. \nThe goal was to consider strategies for shaping a more resilient European Union\, particularly addressing climate and disaster risks. At this juncture\, TREEADS project coordinator presented an overview of the H2020 fire projects\, highlighting its contributions through an engaging oral presentation. \nParticipation in this seminar was pivotal for TREEADS\, offering a distinctive chance to collaborate with fellow EU projects\, and partners and interface with the EU commission. The dynamic discussions\, collaborative exchanges\, and insightful presentations have strengthened  TREEADS commitment to advancing innovative solutions for a safer and more sustainable future. \nFollow us on LinkedIn and Twitter to stay up to date with project developments and latest news!
