DESCRIPTION:TREEADS is thrilled to announce our participation in the Wildland Fire Canada Conference 2024\, held from October 28 to November 1 in Canada. Representing TREEADS\, our German partners presented pioneering research on wildfire dynamics\, focusing on fire spread and smoke toxicity in coniferous forest soils. \nPresentations by TREEADS Partners: \n\nExperimental Investigations on Vertical Fire Spread during Smouldering Combustion of Coniferous Forest Soil\nComprehensive Investigation of Smoke Emission and Toxicity in Smoldering Ground Wildfires: An Integrated Experimental and Numerical Approach\n\nThe event brought together over 400 attendees from the scientific community\, industry\, technology sectors\, and international authorities\, with TREEADS reaching an audience of around 40 key professionals. SUMMARY:TREEADS at the 8th Mediterranean Forest Week
DESCRIPTION:The University of Girona took part in the 8th Mediterranean Forest Week in Barcelona from 4th to 8th November 2024. This event brought together experts\, policymakers and environmentalists from across the Mediterranean to discuss forest issues. This year’s event placed a special focus on forest restoration and resilience building\, examining these topics from scientific\, policy\, and operational perspectives.\n\nUdG presented two posters on the post-fire restoration planning\, featuring the TREEADS Post-fire Spatial Decision Support System. The two posters are titled:\n1. Post-fire restoration: application of a spatial decision support system to a large burned area\n2. TREEADS PF-SDSS: a web-based spatial decision support system for post-fire management\n\nThe poster presentations sparked engaging discussions among participants\, with many expressing strong interest\, posing insightful questions\, and showing enthusiasm for adapting the system for their geographical regions. SUMMARY:OVGU Presents Research on Smouldering Forest Fires at the Wildfire 2024 Conference
DESCRIPTION:On November 12-13\, 2024\, TREEADS project partner Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU) participated in the Wildfire 2024 UK Wildfire Conference held in Aberdeen\, Scotland. This prestigious international event attracted over 250 attendees\, including representatives from the scientific community\, industry leaders\, and national authorities. \nOVGU researchers Kira Piechnik\, Lukas Heydick\, and Andrea Klippel presented their work on “Comprehensive Study on Ground and Underground Smouldering Forest Fires – Combustion Processes and Smoke Gas Emissions” through a poster session. This research\, focusing on the German pilot within TREEADS\, highlights critical advancements in understanding combustion processes and their environmental impacts. \nThe conference provided an excellent platform to disseminate TREEADS’ innovative approaches to holistic fire management while fostering connections with international stakeholders.
