SUMMARY:Call for Papers: [Drones] (IF: 4.8\, ISSN: 2504-446X) - Special Issue "Drones for Wildfire and Prescribed Fire Science"
DESCRIPTION:Advancements in technology have accelerated the use of unmanned aircraft systems (UASs)/ drones\, for research and operations during wildland fires. Drones offer various benefits\, such as spotting potential flare-ups\, maintaining crew member awareness\, supporting firefighting efforts\, collecting meteorological data for plume dispersion calculations\, assessing vegetation before and after burns\, studying fire dynamics\, conducting spot ignitions\, and sampling emissions to assess smoke hazards. \nDrones’ flexibility\, portability\, night-time capability\, and real-time telemetry provide valuable information to incident responders\, aiding decision-making. The emergence of edge computation and 5G/6G networks enables instant in-flight analyses\, crucial for generating products that support fire management decisions during the response stage. \nThis Special Issue will welcome manuscripts that link the use of UAS to the following wildland fire themes: \n\nFirefighter safety\, management and control; Characterization of fire dynamics;\nPlume dispersion; Detailed forest mapping; Characterization of fire emissions;\nMeteorological measurements;\nDetection and tracking of elements (e.g.\, people\, animals\, vehicles\, etc.).\n\nSubmitted articles and review papers should focus on unmanned platforms\, specifically UASs\, along with related technologies and applications in wildland fire management. These submissions should cover topics related to the main steps in wildfires: prevention\, response\, and restoration. The primary requirement is that the papers contribute new and innovative insights\, methods\, or technologies to the field of UAS in wildland fire management. \nLearn more about the submission here. \nDownload the pdf \n\nFollow us on LinkedIn and Twitter to stay up to date with project developments and latest news!

SUMMARY:TREEADS Participates in “Green Horizons Summit 2024”
DESCRIPTION:TREEADS\, represented by LAMMC\, took part in the prestigious “Green Horizons Summit 2024\,” a satellite event of the European Commission’s Bioeconomy Changemakers Festival. This significant event occurred on March 13th\, 2024\, at the historic Vilnius Town Hall in Lithuania. \nDuring the summit\, TREEADS showcased its commitment to sustainability\, adaptability\, and versatility through an engaging presentation titled “LAMMC projects of the future.” This presentation highlighted the pivotal role of the TREEADS project in advancing sustainable practices and fostering innovation. \nThe audience comprised esteemed members of the scientific community\, industry and technology partners\, stakeholders\, national authorities\, institutions\, and media representatives. It provided a platform for constructive dialogue on how initiatives like TREEADS contribute to the growth of the bioeconomy in Lithuania and the wider European Union.\n \nThe Summit\, organised by AgriFood Lithuania and Research Council of Lithuania | Lietuvos mokslo taryba in partnership with the Innovation Agency Lithuania\, the LithuaniaBIO\, and Invest Lithuania\, facilitated discussions among science\, business\, and policy experts on how programs like HORIZON EUROPE drive the development of the bioeconomy.\n\nTREEADS remains dedicated to advancing sustainable development goals and looks forward to continuing its impactful contributions to the bioeconomy.\n\nStay tuned for further updates and insights into TREEADS participation in sustainability initiatives. \nFollow us on LinkedIn and Twitter to stay up to date with project developments and latest news!

SUMMARY:Magdeburg Safety-Conference
DESCRIPTION:At this prestigious fire protection and safety conference\, the TREEADS project was represented through insightful presentations on forest fire research\, specifically focusing on the activities and outcomes of the German Pilot Project. \nThe two papers that were presented were titled: \n\n“Waldbrandforschung im EU-Projekt TREEADS – Arbeiten und Ergebnisse des Deutschen Pilotprojekts” (Forest fire research in the EU project TREEADS – Activities and results of the German Pilot Project)\n“Analyse der Brand- und Rauchausbreitung regionaler Waldbrände – Erste Ergebnisse aus den German-Pilot Brandversuchen im TREEADS-Projekt”\n(Analysis of fire and smoke spread of regional forest fires – First results from the German-Pilot fire tests in the TREEADS project)\n\nThe session provided an in-depth analysis of fire and smoke spread in regional forest fires. Drawing from the first results of the German-Pilot fire tests within the TREEADS project\, the presentation discussed critical insights into understanding and mitigating wildfire risks. \nWe are always excited to share our findings and collaborate with industry experts to further the understanding and implementation of effective wildfire prevention and management solutions.
