SUMMARY:TREEADS in Ávila | Spanish pilot case meeting
DESCRIPTION:On 3-4 November 2022\, TREEADS consortium made a field visit at the Spanish pilot sites in the Province of Ávila\, Spain. The team members had also the chance to gather for the Spanish pilot meeting which followed a local stakeholder workshop that was held in Piedralaves\, a village 100km far from Ávila. \nThe first day began with a tour and an interesting pilot case description. The basic features of documented large fires were explained and the challenges that they created were analyzed. The places visited during the tour were Parameras\, Puerto del Pico\, Pedro Bernardo and Casillas. Passing through recently burnt areas was also part of the program and gave all partners a deeper insight into the Spanish realities\, although it made the situation a bit more distressing. The attendees took advantage of this opportunity to observe many physical features and accurately record the varying aspects of each site. Practical real-time solutions were brought to the forefront\, bridging the gap between research and practical application. \nThe session on November the 4th was a hybrid meeting during which the technological partners’ requirements were discussed and great things were analyzed for the development of the Spanish use case scenario. During the meeting\, the project’s pilot leaders focused on the steps that are required to accomplish their goal and explored the potential risks. \nOne of the things that should be specially noted is that TREEADS attracted coverage in Spanish local media. A moment that should be underlined as the project was presented to a plethora of individuals and potential end-users. We would like to thank Mr. Armando García\, the deputy of European Affairs Area\, as well as the project coordinator\, Mr. Kemal Sarp Arsava\, from RISE Fire Research AS \, and the leader of the project’s geospatial platform\, Prof. Diego Gonzalez-Aguilera\, from Universidad de Salamanca who covered the journalists’ questions about the importance of the project for the Province of Avila. Their position in relation to the project and its presentation during the interview with the local reporters was thankworthy and admirable. \nAt the end of the day\, team building is what matters the most. As seen below\, all present partners got together at the social lunch for networking and knowledge exchange in an informal setting. \nWe are looking back to a great meeting with lively discussions and we are very thankful to our Spanish partners from the Diputación de Ávila and Universidad de Salamanca\, for hosting and organising such a great event. \nFollow us on LinkedIn and Twitter to stay up to date with project developments and latest news!

SUMMARY:Norwegian Pilot Stakeholder Workshop
DESCRIPTION:On the 9th of November 2022\, TREEADS Norwegian Pilot Stakeholder Workshop was held in Oslo\, Norway. More than 40 experts and stakeholders gathered to discuss about the major challenges regarding wildfires in Norway and first-hand insights on identifying good practice solutions in wildfire management were provided. \nTREEADS Norwegian pilot aims to find solutions to protect the country’s forest areas. In particular\, the Norwegian pilot focuses on fires in areas where populated areas and infrastructure meets nature (forest\, heather\, grassland)\, the so-called wildland-urban-interface (WUI) fires. With this clear purpose in mind the workshop served to establish a discussion on a more in-depth collaboration and ways to emphasize the consortium’s strengths\, even beyond the frame of the project. \nWe would like to thank all the participants for their noteworthy contributions as well as our partners from RISE Fire Research AS\, Ragni Fjellgaard Mikalsen and Edvard Aamodt\, for the great presentation of the pilot. \nFollow us on LinkedIn and Twitter to stay up to date with project developments and latest news!

SUMMARY:TREEADS at the “ICFFR - International Conference on Forest Fire”
DESCRIPTION:In front of an amazing audience of stakeholders and researchers from all over the world\, TREEADS was presented on November 15\, 2022\, during the European Research and Innovation Plenary Session on the second day of the ICFFR – International Conference on Forest Fire Research in Coimbra\, Portugal. Following its previous editions\, the scope of this conference covered the main topics related to fire management in a research perspective. \nDuring the conference\, Ms. Ellen Synnøve Skilbred from RISE partner had also the opportunity to describe the company and its notable role in TREEADS. She was one of the panelists at a session called “Wildfire Risk Management research cooperation roadmap for Europe and beyond” arranged by Firelogue and she participated\, along with other representatives of fire-related projects\, in a video created by Firelogue to show the power of collaboration. \nWe would like to thank her for taking up such an active role in TREEADS promotion! \nFollow us on LinkedIn and Twitter to stay up to date with project developments and latest news!

SUMMARY:TREEADS presented to students of the University of Patras
DESCRIPTION:On November 22 TREEADS was presented to students at the Department of Materials Science\, University of Patras\, Greece. \nMr Loukas Athanasekos\, PhD from Eight Bells Ltd.\, made a presentation on the goals and objectives of the project. The students and teaching staff of the MSci Department had the chance to get informed on the TREEADS ongoing actions and planned activities. \nSpecial interest was drawn to the novel technologies that will be deployed throughout the project. The overall event provided food for thought to future researchers regarding the necessity for a holistic fire handling approach at a Pan-European level\, along with innovative techniques for effective: prevention & preparedness\, detection & response\, and restoration & adaptation. \nWe would like to thank the MSci Department for their kind invitation. It was a fruitful and amazing time for TREEADS. \nFollow us on LinkedIn and Twitter to stay up to date with project developments and latest news!
